Liz Larin celebrating recent creative explosion
January 17, 2008
It's a triple shot of music. Local singer-songwriter Liz Larin is set to release not one, not two, but three new discs, and she has planned a gathering at Royal Oak's Goodnite Gracie at 8 p.m. Wednesday to celebrate.
Larin composed work for the three discs in one year -- an amazing feat for an artist.

"Something just exploded in my head," Larin says from her home studio in Birmingham, where most of the work on the discs was done.
"I realized there were a number of different projects I wanted to do, and they didn't all fit together."
The first of the three is titled "Liz Larin -- Blue Circus Life." It's a fresh take on the sound we've come to expect from Larin, combining sensually edgy lyrics and baritone guitar to form well-crafted folk-pop songs.
Larin gets experimental and goes for an ambient world-beat sound on the second disc, "Stella 13 -- When Soul Becomes Symphony." She employs a more laid-back approach to songwriting and uses her voice more like an instrument.
"I think there's a whole body of work there having to do with using the voice as an instrument," she says. "I've had a blast doing that. It's sort of like a film score."
The third disc -- my favorite of the three -- is "Luster Kraft -- The Transmitter." This disc showcases Larin's fearless approach to the underground world of electronica. "I was able to incorporate my interest in electronica with no apologies," she says.
Surprisingly there are two more discs in the works for release later this year.
"I've got a lot of music in me, and there's a lot more to be created," Larin says.
She is also working on a book about how sound affects the body. It will tie in with an upcoming CD.
