Acclaimed singer-songwriter Liz Larin (Bona Dea Music), outshined the country's biggest national artists...including Eminem, Kid Rock, White Stripes and the Funk Brothers at the annual Detroit Music Awards show held Friday, April 11 at the State Theatre in Detroit. Larin was the evenings top award winner by winning six of the ten categories in which she was nominated. The awards include: Outstanding Rock/Pop Recording for The Story of O-Miz <> Outstanding Rock/Pop Vocalist <> Outstanding Pop Artist <> Outstanding Rock/Pop Instrumentalist <> Outstanding Acoustic/Folk Vocalist and Outstanding Acoustic/Folk Songwriter. The Story of O-Miz is Larin's second release on her own Bona Dea Music imprint released in November 2002. It was critically aclaimed as an independent release.
Larin graciously thanked the musicians that performed on the CD. They included Robert Tye–guitar, James Simenson and Chuck Bartels–bass guitar, Todd Glass and Dave Taylor–drums and "Roscoe" who co-produced the project with Larin.
"I am just totally surprised", exclaimed Larin, as the events unfolded. "I'm so proud and honored to be among this room full of talented musicians......"
Larin first achieved critical acclaim as a member of Press, a Detroit based band. The band later re-formed as Rebel Heels and released the album One By One By One on Atlantic Records. Larin also released a solo album on Atlantic Records entitled Test Your Faith. She later returned to Detroit from Los Angeles and released Merry Wicked under her newly formed label, Bona Dea Music, which was produced by Grammy-nominee Scott Spock (Avril Lavigne).
