What's the Heck Has Been Going On...?

It's been a while since I have entered anything in my journal. The truth is I've been busy making some dreams happen in my life. I've had an interest in how music effects health, and researching the book is leading me in some interesting directions. I've been learning that cutting edge technology is giving us new information almost daily regarding the effects of sound on the body. It's leading me to brush up on my math and science, which is great fun. I will include excerpts and information about sound and the body, here, as I rough out the text.

I'm most excited about a series of new music I've been working on, under the project name Stella 13. I felt a real need to break out and use my voice as an instrument, and to explore new rhythms. Knowing that music can be good for us, and knowing how much I love to listen to music that allows me to think and visualize, I've been on a mission to create music that takes you places. The first CD in the series has been completed, it's called 'When Soul Becomes Symphony' and it will be available on my website for digital download first, then on CD Baby, then iTunes, Amazon.com, etc. There will be a limited number of hard copies available at gigs, the last week of October, 2007.

I've been listening to a lot of interesting music as of late; Amon Tobin, Eluvium, Matthew Dear, and Detroit's own, yet now defunct, 19.5 Collective (who now have a new project called 'The Moon Is On'). I love to study the work of classical composers, modern composers, and world beat and Stella 13 reflects all of that. I've been experiencing performances by New Music Detroit, a group of DSO members whose cutting edge repertoire has really inspired me to dare to produce the kind of music I am hearing in my head.

I've been testing the electronic ambient sound of Stella 13 in front of a crowd at my wonderful steady gig at God Night Gracie on wednesday nights, and receiving some very positive feedback. Adding visuals has been a dream for me, and include art work by electronic music maverick Brian Eno. And yes, it's different from what I normally do, but bear with me. I will be releasing the new song based pieces as well, very soon, which are taking a new turn as well.

I'm happy to say that I'm not playing under a spot light anymore, using candle light instead when I can, to put more focus on the music and the audiences experience, and less on me as a person.

The CD release party for Stella 13 is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 28th at Good Night Gracie, with concerts scheduled around Detroit and Chicago in place I don't normally play, like places that feature electronic/techno concerts by DJ's, art museums and galleries.
