 Shark Diving...Bahamas
 April 29th, 2005

To treat myself after finishing the new CD, while it’s being duplicated I went to the Bahamas with some friends to do some scuba diving It was my birthday week and I chose to be out on the ocean, gearing up then slipping under water for a new adventure. After a week of reef, wall and rec diving I had the opportunity to do a dive with sharks. They take you about 5 miles out into the ocean on a special dive boat, where I suited up with about seven other guys then slipped overboard, descending to dive along a wall known as Shark Wall. They were everywhere! The beautiful Caribbean Reef Shark is a scavenger and we were told they don’t usually eat people or anything that’s alive for that matter. Not usually; how trusting. Then we came back up to the boat after flying and floating over an amazing reef wall which went from about 45 feet to 6500 feet (we stayed at about 85 feet). After strapping on a fresh tank we all descended to 45 feet and took our places on a sandy patch of the reef, in a circle about the size of an average living room. We were told ahead of time to keep our hands in and to steady ourselves and to wait. Then the shark feeder descended with a steel box of big fish heads, wearing a full chain mail suit and motorcycle helmet taking his place in the middle of the circle. The sharks, the size of a sofas, were swarming by this time, coming in over our heads, swimming between us and even bumping into us. It was amazing to watch as the sharks dove together for the fish heads as they were held up on a skewer, mouths open, grabbing the food and swimming around again to catch another bite. After the sharks had finished their treat the feeder retreated leaving us to sift through the sand for sharks teeth. I found two small teeth which I now wear in a locket around my neck.
There was an underwater videographer to capture the event and I’m now the proud owner of a DVD of the shark dive, just to prove to myself that I really did it!

Also, I met a crew who were working on a segment of a TV show about the shark dive. I think it was called, Thrill Seekers? Captain James Harkins was the guide and Jessica York was the producer and on air personality. I might be in the show if I don’t up on the cutting room floor.

I’m already planning my next adventure --

Love and peace -

LIZ
