The Muse has been messing with me...
 September 29th, 2004

Yes, I was hoping to have the new CD out as promised in the fall of 2004. Funny thing happened, though. I started writing again. In fact, I started writing a lot! The new songs have taken a fresh new direction which I am excited about. Roscoe and I have been in the studio none stop for many months working on the new material. I’ve brought in some great musicians to lend their ideas. Wow, there have been some wonderful surprises so far. I can’t wait for you to hear them. One surprise is that we have recorded a cover song, a Led Zeppelin tune, and it rocks! Thanks for your patience.

I love the way the Muse let’s me know when it wants me to stop what I’m doing and get to work writing. Sometimes it is not the best time, like when I am trying to get to a gig, or when I’m in my car with nothing to write with. That is when I get really creative. I have many examples of songs lately that have been written on shopping bags or bank brochures.
I have a new keyboard and some new outboard gear for my project studio which have been great tools. It’s amazing to just go ahead and write what you feel when you have nothing to lose anymore! It’s like falling back into a big old feather bed!

I let the music be what it’s going to be, I let it reflect the world, it’s the soundtrack to our lives. That’s why I can’t take too much credit for it. How many times have we gotten in the car alone and cranked up a favorite CD, knowing that this music reflects how we feel inside, or how we want to feel. Music can make us brave when we don’t feel that brave. It can make us feel hope when the world is looking pretty hopeless. Music can make us feel like there is nothing to worry about, all the stuff that has been bothering us gets drummed out by a great rockin' tune! It can make us feel that we really love someone (or lust after someone) even when it’s not possible to express it for some reason or another. It puts us smack-dab in touch with how we feel.

I hope you enjoy the new CD when it comes out in the spring, I can’t wait for your to hear it!
